"What Small Market Team Did David Ortiz get Lured Away From?
Wasn't it the low revenue Minnesota Twins who couldn't offer him the Big Buck$....so the Red $ox $wept in an $cooped him up for Big Money?"

That simply isn't true.

The Red Sox didn't lure him away from the Twins, the Twins released him.

The Red Sox signed him as a free agent, but not for "Big Money" as you claim. At least, not big money as it pertains to baseball salaries. His first contract with the Red Sox? One year, $1.25 million.

The Twins or any other team could have afforded to sign Ortiz for that amount, but the Red Sox were the only team that chose to do so.

Wow...you must be really bitter if you are hating the Red Sox this much...he wasn't lured away...the Red Sox made a great move...its called good scouting...its not like the Sox held a gun to the Twins and forced them to release Ortiz...the Twins RELEASED Ortiz!!! That seems more dumb on the part of the Twins than anything...get your facts right.

Wow, talk about showing your ignorance.

He wasn't lured away - he was RELEASED by the Twins because they didn't think he'd ever amount to anything. The Sox signed him as a free agent for barely $1m, and they got a huge bargain.

Get your facts straight.

The idiotic Twins outright released Ortiz after the 2002 season on the grounds that he would never be able to hit major league pitching. Get your facts straight.

do some basic research, idiot.

Ortiz was a platoon player in Minnesota-- never had more than about 400 AB's in a season. Twins RELEASED him outright.

Sox signed him for CHEAP money and gave him a chance as a full time player (thank you for sucking, Jeremy Giambi!)

and then signed him to an extension before that contract was up - he's one of the biggest bargains in the major leagues at about $13m per year (in 2007, from 03-07 he never made more than $6m for the Sox)

waaaah - the Sox spend too much money. You are a jacka$$.

no he got cut from the twins, he was not great with them. His last year with them he hit 20 homers and 75 rbis and only hitting .272, the red sox signed him cheap and he did good with them and now is getting paid real good.
