tabi - I think there are as many guys out there that just watch football to ogle the cheerleaders as there are women who watch it for the guys. Then throw in the % of guys that watch it for the "hot" guys and there are a lot of male "false fans" as well.
Just a side note, If that is really you in the pic,,, I wouldn't care why you wanted to watch the football if you wanted to watch with me. :)
It is usually easy to tell from the 1st quarter which type of lady you have watching with you. But the more fans (for what ever reason) the better ratings and more football.

I haven't read the other responses, but any woman I know that will watch football will not choose to watch football if it was their choice. You can't really talk to most women about other teams, other players across the league. Most women don't know... much. And it gets tiring having to explain "Why do they always run right in to the pile and get no where?" I hear that a couple times every game.
I would love it if my gf was big in to football, as she is with her damn reality shows. She will only watch it when I say I am watching football
So I think it is awesome... women being in to football.

I get the same thing. Some guys won't take me seriously and think I have no knowledge. It's actually quite fun to school them.
Any man that thinks a woman can't possibly know a thing about sports because she has breasts isn't going to take her seriously with anything. I don't follow the logic. Does the absence of breasts mean a guy wouldn't know how to cook? The women who pretend to like sports and really don't know anything don't help us much obviously. (you know the type, she giggles every time an announcer says "tight end" and likes a player because he's "like totally hot") I think that is why some men are skeptical. Others are skeptical for chauvinistic reasons. But it's their problem.
My husband absolutely loves it, that's all that matters to me. And I personally love making friends other women who can talk sports.

I think it's fine for women to like football, not really sure why it would be an issue. i guess some guys feel threatened for some weird reason. It's more annoying that some people men or women say they are fans then know nothing about the game or any teams.

Being taken serious will come with knowing the game. I know a woman that thinks she knows sports. She knows the players, she knows the team record, who is hot/not, but she lacks a fundamental understanding of the game. She does not understand all of the rules and she will make some basic mistakes when 'big talking' about a team.
If you know your stuff, no one can doubt you. Use facts when you talk about it. If you are talking defenses, know that the Steelers are leading the lead in both total yardage and points against. Don't fall into the trap of saying that the Bears have a great defense because you heard they did last year.
Love the game, love your team, and if a guy is flippant to you about the game... put him in his place.

I enjoy watching football with my wife every weekend. We enjoy going down the road to Bronco Stadium and watching BSU play.
She's a 49ers fan and I'm a Broncos fan (lucky for her she hates the other Bay Area team as much as I do...lol)
I've been in other relationships where the girl could not stand football. My wife understands and loves the game. I like it much better this way.

It's all cool with me, but I can't stand it when a girl claims to be a huge football fan/know a lot about it, but then makes statements that clearly prove otherwise. Of course it pisses me off when a guy does it too, but it makes me more mad when a girl does it because it makes me think she says she likes football because it makes guys pay more attention to her.
So as long as you're not in that group, you'd be fine by my standards.

Eh that's just guys being judgemental. If you like then just like it! You don't need to explain and let others know you like it. ("you" girls in general not you). I myself do get pretty pissed off if my team is not doing well (giants) and i get pretty angry if I see the Cowboys winning. I start cussing and wishing them all to die and well my bf just agrees with me. I think. Or is afraid of me. But I think his bad temper in football kind of rubs off on me too. Or I see it as a chance to just let go. I still ask questions about the technicality of football. I want to know not just sit there and be confused. I hate when it seems as if the empire is being an ****** and seems like he is bias towards a team. Lots of anger in football. Lots of tension too huh? I think I might give myself a heart attack one day.
