Words are important and valuable when backed up with appropriate actions. Words in and of themselves do mean things, but the power of the word is seen when they are not hollow.
Anyone can say anything, but the proof of their mettle is in their action. If they talk the talk, they better be able to walk the walk.
I give everyone the benefit of the doubt, and I will take your word at face value. However, just like respect, you must earn my trust in your word by backing what you say by what you do.
This is one of the biggest reasons people do not trust politicians. They say one thing to get elected, then do other things to further their own personal agendas once in office.

Words mean nothing if the actions tell a different story. Actions usually come from the heart. Ideally both words and actions should mirror each other. I pray mine do that for you (-;

No. Words are nice when you are in a strange place so you can understand what is going on.
In work situations, action is more important.
I might say " Find me someone who can do the job" and I mean a doer, not the one who can make a 2 hour job last for a full day.

Words, both spoken and written, are symbols of thought. Symbols point to truths that exist beyond them (objects, events, actions). Thought-Word-Action, is the process through which we create our realities. Words are only important for conveying understanding and work as the link between thoughts and actions. Proper thoughts create concise words create correct actions.

I do not know the actions of persons long dead. I can only judge them by their words. So sometimes, yes.

Sometimes. I think it depends upon a person's own personal state of self, and what they believe about themselves.
Some will be more threatened (or conversely, encouraged) by words alone, while others demand action.
