Is this ever acceptable? Why or why not?

Ever had this happen? You flip somebody off once you can get by them and then they catch up to you at the stoplight? D'oh!

Thanks!

I did not understand the question and its connection to Sweet P's long-winded missionizing attempt.

Haha unless you want a cab driver to get out and beat you at that stoplight, you probably wouldn't want to do it around Boston. Though, it happens so much that no one really notices anymore -- like the constant honking of cars. It's all apart of it.

Is this acceptable? Um...no....

But it's one of those things that everyone does so much that nobody cares. Like swearing. It might be a big deal to a few handful of people (and is obviously not something you want to be doing in a business or professional setting) but out in public, people it do it all the time. Flipping someone off while drive is no different.

I avoid flipping them off, as there have been too many road rage killings. I do put their names in the Big Book of people who will NOT get into Heaven.

I just get far away from the idiots, because that cop might not know the difference and stop me instead!

I will drop way back, use my cell to call the tag and vehicle description in to my local 911 about the "drunk driver", and usually, within about ten minutes, he/she/drunk/druggie/Soccer Mom, will be on the road side, "esplanin' they's problims" and why they have no license, lost the registration, and can't find the insurance card!

I also do not honk as I go by. But, I do have the biggest grin you ever saw! All the police know me, and love me, for generating so much revenue for our city!

I am guilty of this, but on rare occasions. I've been flipped off, too--and usually I never know why! I try to keep myself calm and not let other drivers get on my nerves. I'd rather get to my destination late than not at all. Giving somebody the finger may feel good in the moment, but it could also escalate a situation to the point where somebody does something violent. Not worth it. Often the other driver doesn't even know they have done something to annoy.

Once when it was raining real hard and the road was flooding my sister was taking it slow through the water and this truck came speeding down the road swerved around us and drenched the car in muddy water. She yelled and gave him the finger. He then slowed down so that she had to come up behind him, and opened the back window of the truck and stuck his hand out and flipped her off. He then sped off splashing even more water on us. She was sooo mad, she never gets mad, she was yelling "did you see that, how dare he flip me off" I was laughing so hard I couldn't speak. I could not believe how mad she was, when she did the same thing to him. She said that because he was in the wrong he had no right to flip her off. I guess there is some kind of etiquette for giving someone the bird. I don't know, I try to control it myself because you never know if you might incite some sort of road rage.

Ha ha. Yeah I can imagine how awkward it would be when someone is suddenly next to you after that! I have flipped ppl off before, only because how else are you supposed to let them know they are being a jerk? You can't really hold up a sign or yell things to them. I have also been flipped off before and she was in the wrong, it made me mad for a few hours.

If they are drining like an ******, then absolutely! of course in today's society you kind of run the risk of flipping off a raving lunatic and ending up on the 6:00 news due to a road rage incident! Oh, one thing though, it's NOT acceptable to do that with your kids in the car!

NOPE, because i cant drive yet. ahah permit count down: 9 more months! (hehe) and I'm totally against the whole "flipping off" another driver thing... what if they were having a bad day and they just couldn't pay attention to the road because their day has been so bad (example: someone died in their life, boyfriend/ girlfriend broke up with them, they found out they were going to to die in 3 months, etc.) =]

Only if they do something really really stupid, and piss me the h*ll off, then, yes I flip them off. Actually flipped off a cop the other day, because he was being such a hearless jerk, he couldn't even be bothered to help a lady in distress. If I ever see him again, I will probably give him a huge peace of my mind about his supposed job. "To Serve and Protect." Not treat a lady in distress like she is some crack wh*re. That is how he made me feel, and I really hope he saw me flip him the bird, because the a*shole deserved it. The jerk.

I would only flip someone off if they did something that almost caused an accident. But ONLY if it was because of something stupid like driving 20 over the speed limit or not watching the road! Then I wouldn't care if they caught up to me :)

lol. no I have never done that, but I am usually the one taking my time and driving safely only to catch up with the nutjob at the red light that was tailgating me for 10 miles and blowing his horn and waving the finger as he passes. I always wondered if they realized that they were stupid? at least some do huh?
onewithoneself... thats what i do when someones tailing me. either they'll hit me and have to pay for the damages, or they'll slow down in time and realise they should keep assured cleared distance, or they will just ***** and say people dont know how to drive and continue to be oblivious to what they do wrong. ciest la vie
