A friend just moved her goldfish to a tank that has 3 blue gouramis and 1 kissing gourami.I told her I didn't know if that was so smart.Size wise they are all the same but I still am not sure that it is ok.
So I thought I would ask here.Am I wrong can that be an ok combination in a flitered, heated tank?

Your friend has made a mistake with putting her goldfish in with the gourami.

Gourami prefer water temperatures at the high end of what goldfish tolerate well. Goldfish do best in temps between 65 & 75 degrees and gourami do best in temps between 72 - 78 degrees. The goldfish are hardy enough to live in the warmer water, but they will loose color, become listless and become more susceptible to disease in warmer temperatures for prolonged periods of time.

Gourami tend to nip fins. This is especially true of fish of other species (goldfish). Gourami commonly shred fins to the point the attacked fish can no longer swim and the fish die.

Goldfish excrete massive amounts of waste and often toxify the water to a point it can be extremely toxic to all of your fish. Goldfish alone require intensive tank maintenance routines when kept alone. Goldfish should really only be kept with other similar goldfish for this reason. Mixing goldfish with other fresh water fish will ultimately lead to poor fish health and quite possibly, premature fish death.

Your friend needs a separate tank for the gourami and goldfish.

I wouldn't recommend it. Goldfish like cool, moving water with no salt. Gouramis are tropical fish that prefer warm, still water with a bit of aquarium salt. If you really want both goldies and gouramis try running two tanks (one for each) instead of one.

It's really not a good idea to put anything in with goldfish as they give off amonias and could kill other fish that aren't there kind. That's what I've learned in the past as I've had goldfish for many years.

no goldfish are cold water gouramis are tropical fish requiring a heater gold fish produce a high amount of waste and even if you could keep them together the gouramis would die they just could not cope with the amount of waste which goldfish produce
Just to reiterate one is cold water one is tropical and should not be mixed

I always kept my kssing gourami's with other fish and even fish that were smaller and they always seemed to do ok. Although, the fish store always recommended NOT to keep gourami's with smaller, less agressive fish. Since they are the same size, they shouldn't be able to eat the goldfish....but your friend should keep an eye on them and make sure they aren't bullying him.
