This really bugs me. It seems like a waste of paper, since you can barely read anything with it like that. And it's not always at the very end of the roll either. Sometimes it's pink for a while and then goes back to normal. What is the logic in that?

yea to let you know its running out. get some new ink for your adding machine and maybe you can see better. it comes in REALLY handy with credit card machines. You don't wanna run out mid-transaction!

It's a warning to let you know tape is coming to an end and you will need to replace it soon.
The red/pink may be in the middle of the roll due to the dye running/leaking onto another part of the roll.

The colors are to alert whomever is using it that the end is near.
