WASHINGTON (CNN) -- The Senate on Thursday handed President Bush his first veto override -- authorizing $23 billion in new water projects.

It's good to see the Senate working together to get things done that the majority of both parties agree on. It's also good to see Bush fulfilling his promise of "uniting". Although an odd way, he is uniting the Senate.

Senates are only good at spending money. Historically a veto to deny money for something (hhmmhmm) is much harder to obtain than a veto override that allows one to spend.

Telling a Senate to stop spending money on something is like pulling teeth. It hurts them deeply and a lot of other people have to gang up on them to force em to do it.

Also politicians are giant puhssies about real issues.

No, doesn't hurt a bit. Finally the system is working. Finally they are working together.. of course for the Republicans, the fact that an election is coming and we all know what a screw up they and their boss have been.. it figures.

While I don't agree with it. That's the whole point of checks and balances. He vetoed it, but enough of "the people" wanted it to pass, so it did. It's our system at it's finest.
