tapping...scales... well to get the point across... you , as you learn, will be playing one scale pattern with your left hand and continue to play up the string into the next pattern with you other hand .. just like playing the scale on one string.. first try learning the scales... search for pentatonic minor scales and learn what you find. I hold the pick with my thumb and first finger and tap with my middle finger

You just "tap" the string behind the fret of the note you want to play. It WILL work on an acoustic guitar, but you have to tap harder for it to be heard. For a great way to really take this to the limit, get a copy of Jeff Watson's "The Octadigital Technique" on how to use 8 fingers for this.

It only really works on an electric guitar. You have to turn your gain and master volume up on your amp, then you're ready. If you want to learn the technique (and how to do it properly), your best bet is to get an instructional video or DVD where they show you how to do it and give you tableture that shows you some common finger-tapping licks. Check out the website below for a wide variety of instructional videos/DVDs at the lowest prices you'll find:

its extremely hard to explain, but sooooooo easy. pick a couple notes on one string and hit each one in a certain order. take you pointer or middle finger to the fret of the note of which you want to hit and pluck upward with your finger...(aka tapping)

hope this helps somehow. or take lessons from a teacher they will show you how.
