Today I went to have my first ultrasound in this pregnancy. By my LMP I am 9.5 weeks, but on the screen the tech could barely find the baby. It was a little dot and she says it seems to be only about a 4week pregnancy. I am very sure about the time I got pregnant and I KNOW I am 9.5 weeks. This was a planned baby, I knwo the exact day I would have become pregnant. Does anyone know what the reasons for this to be so small could be? She couldn't really answer my questions today. Thanks

Ultrasound techs are NOT allowed to tell you what's going on. When I went in at 5 weeks with my first (checking to make sure it wasn't ectopic) the tech wouldn't tell me ANYTHING!!! She told me at the end that she has to turn everything over to the doctor to interpret, she wasn't allowed to even comment. Your doctor will call with the truth, but if I were you I'd be ready for the worst-- it sounds like a missed miscarriage. I'm sorry, but I wish you the best.

I have to ask. You KNOW when you got pregnant, but how long ago did you turn up a positive home pregnancy test? I'd prefer to believe that you situation is a result of a missed period following a conception the next month, putting you at 4 weeks like the ultrasound. Through the first half of the pregnancy (at least) all fetuses are about the same size and in the same stage of development. The earlier during gestation the ultrasound is the closer they can estimate how far along the pregnancy is.

I don't think i have to say the other possibility that would result in an undersized fetus. But i'm really rooting for the other possibility for you. Did your ultrasound tech give you any indication that something might be wrong? How soon are you suppose to see your doctor again? Did they have you make an appointment solely to discuss the results of your ultrasound?

I am currently going through the same thing. Only I am a little further than you. Going by calculations and when i took the pregnancy test I am 24 weeks. The ultrasound shows I am only 19 weeks. The md wont sign off on the ultrasound until I go back in 2 weeks for another to check the weight and how much he has grown in the 2 week time frame. I also have preeclampsia i just found out. My baby is more likely going to be smaller as i am small and I only weighed 5 pounds when born. Do not sit and stress over it though. When the md came in to talk about the results with me- we didnt get many questions answered as well.. I have to contine to go every 2 weeks until he feels there is nothing to worry about. Good luck!

9.5 weeks is very early. They baby is still very small at this time. My ultrasounds always showed my baby to be bigger than she was. There is nothing to be worried about. You will have more ultrasounds. The doctor will let you know if there is anything to be worried about. Don't stress, it not good for the baby.

it could be that it's small, and will start growing, or it could be that it stopped growing (sorry) I had that happen to me with my 2nd pregnancy, I was supposed to be 8 weeks and the ultrasound saw me as 5 weeks, it ended up in a miscarriage. but it's not always the case. hope everything goes well for you. good luck.

she should have answered your questions- thats what shes there for. i wouldnt worry about it until your next scan- although at 9.5 weeks it should have a heartbeat. if you really are worried go and see your doctor! from personal experience the hospital and the midwife are rubbish. i have got all my info from the internet- my midwife has told me next to nothing (i am currently 37 weeks pregnant-and only 19yrs old) i dont know what to expect and she has explained nothing. she has also left me to suffer with SPD without any advice or help! they dont do their jobs properly!

good luck- your guna need it!

Don't worry, the baby could just be very small. Some babies are just smaller than others. That is why some babies weigh 5lbs. and some babies weigh 10lbs when they are born. It varies.
CONGRATULATIONS.
