"Swift boating" means revealing the truth about a person. I don't think anyone told Bill what it really means.
I believe that he thinks it means when you say something bad about a person. It doesn't mean that what they reveal is incorrect, just not very flattering.
It originated when the Swift boat veterans told the truth about how Kerry behaved during his military stint.
These veterans were upset that Kerry was so freely lying about his military record, so they went on TV and told the truth. Needless to say, Kerry didn't appreciate the truth coming out on national TV.
Although he denied it, Kerry to this day has not disputed what they said, which just further proves it is the truth.
And he still hasn't released his military record. I guess he never will since it would prove what a liar he is. Nobody really cares anymore anyway.
But the term lives on. More ought to "swiftboat" these liars. We need for the truth to get out.

They have to have a catch phrase. The first was "vast right wing conspiracy", the last one was "gravitas". If Hillary gets "swift boated" (a bunch of people who know a lot or have a lot of experience about a particular subject, step up and wave the BS flag), it will probably be by another Democrat candidate. It is too early for Republicans to get too nasty on her as she is not the nominee yet. There are those who are waiting for her to make a major gaff and then they will dog pile on her. As time goes on and if she remains a top contender, then more shots from the Right will be fired (and likely more than a few from the Left).
If "Swift boating" was done to Kerry by his Navy peers, what do you call what was done to Bush by Dan Rather with phony military records?
Hey Debra H. I didn't hear any lies from the Swift Boat guys. Just them stripping away some of the varnish. But Dan Rather threw out some whoppers. I guess that makes him a Republican?

Yes, this is basically a leftist construct similar to McCarthyism that the left uses whenever somebody tells the truth about someone's record or positions on issues.
This goes back to 2004 when John Kerry's military record and post-military protesting/testimony before Congress was brought into the forefront by the Swift Boat Veterans, led by John O'Neill (himself no friend of Republicans).

Obama leads Hillary with the aid of one p.c. of the conventional vote so a procedures, or approximately seven-hundred,000 votes. The race is particularly close, even though it's going to be very very nearly impossible for Hillary to overtake Obama by using way the Democrats award delegates proportionally. that's outstanding how basically 2 people so a procedures somewhat replied your question, whilst the rest work together in call-calling and stupidity. This was a talk board for clever people to respond to each and each others valid questions, yet now it has exchange into in simple terms yet another rant-crammed message board.

I think eveyone else answered that question well enough.
What I'd like to know is what he meant by his use of the term, 'cutesy land' in the same statement.
I mean, he is so lost in blame that he never even thinks to admit he or, his wife had a bad moment?
I wasn't aware people on the presidential level spoke like that. The man must be suffering from memories of his mom/grandmom snapping, 'don't get cutesy with me!'
Poor guy, obviously verbally badgered by women his entire life.
Kinda explains Hillary, doesn't it? The rapes, the affairs, the lack of respect, the inward hatred.

Aparently, it means someone in a position to know has called her on some lies, possibly exagerating the degree of untruth involved, and that the political spin machine is revving to maximum rpms to defend her.
At least, that's what happened with Kerry. Kerry claimed to be a war hero, so his fellow veterans, who served with him, called him on it, pointing out that he was just a politically oportunistic rich kid. But they probably went a little too far in making exagerated or false claims about just how un-heroic he really was.

It refers to right wing attacks on Sen. Kerry in 2004, against Kerry, called the "Swift Boat" expose. They said that Kerry committed various offenses and even war crimes while being a commander of a swift boat in Vietnam. Of course, King George II was never even in Vietnam. Most of these allegations were later shown to be entirely baseless.

It has to do with people who attacked John Kerry during his run for President. I believe they went after his Vietnam war record.
For them it's like blaming the Boy's Club, the Vast Right Wing Conspiracy. Rarely has anything to do with the fact that in the last debate in Philly she clearly had problem's at the end and could not recover from the questions about her NY Governor and his ideas on giving illegal aliens driver's licenses. My favorite part of this speech was when WJC added atleast vote Democrat, if not voting for my wife... like a disclaimer on his part. Thanks.

swiftboating comes from the group that was funded by Karl Rove and bush's administration during his re-election that lied about serving with John Kerry, and said he didn't deserve the medals he received while serving in Vietnam. The Swift boat vetrans that told stories didn't even serve with John kerry

He is trying to divert attention from someone telling the truth about his wife by associating it with something that is made to sound bad.
