If you have to ask that question then you are probably not old enough to get it....or to be having sex.

Depo Shot Age Limit

There is no standard age requirement. Some doctors won't give it to very young patients because of the possible health effects. It has been shown to deplete bone-density levels, and that is particularly dangerous in young women who are still growing.

There are other serious side effects, including depression, weight gain, headaches, mood swings, breast tenderness, skin problems, hair loss, and menstrual irregularities. Some women don't have any periods while on the shot, others bleed almost non-stop. There is no way to tell how your body will react.

I was completely miserable the whole time I was on it. You should do a little more research and consider some other birth control options, too.

I don't know what age you have to be to get it but....

Your period is really screwy for awhile when you first start on a Depo shot from what I hear, even spotting off and on.

Not only that, but hair loss is a big side affect of the shot.

I soooooo would not want to be on Depo. My family doctor even warned me against it.

I started on depo at 13, but I would not recommend staying on it for too long, it stops your period (or in some cases you bleed non stop) and not having a period is just not healthy for a growing girl

Frankly I think it should be banned.

You'd have to talk to your doctor.

As for a period, you could bleed for MONTHS, you could have a regular period, you could spot at odd times of the month, or you could not have a period at all.

IMO there are far too many negative and health risking issues with this shot that I do not think it should be administered at all.

The side affects are absolutely terrible.

Please take a look at this review site:

and google "depo provera lawsuit" and read up on this drug!

You have to be at least 18, or have a child if you are younger. And no you don't menstruate for a whole month, everyboby's different so it varies. But, if you bleed for more than three weeks you should get to an ER. Go to webmd.com that way you can talk to the pros and get efficient information.
