Hi,
Maybe it's just the way they are made. For instance some people are quiet and introvert, some outgoing and sociable. Some determined and ambitious, some lazy and resentful. Those who gossip and spread rumours may have an ulterior motive i.e. to make life hell for someone else or to deliberately slur their personality. Or they might think they impress people by 'knowing so much' when in fact it's probably the opposite. Or their lives are just so boring and uneventful and they have so little to do that gossip and spreading rumours makes them feel useful ... you know as if they're doing people a favour spreading worthless rumour. ha! as if!

Because they feel they have some dirt on somebody and are in control , they hold an ace up their sleeves and puts others on the defensive and they like attention . By spreading rumors and gossip , they might be trying to ward off any undue attention or even be the subject of their rumor they are spreading.

via fact they experience they have some airborne dirt and airborne dirt and dust on somebody and are on top of issues , they carry an ace up their sleeves and places others on the protecting and that they prefer interest . by utilising spreading rumors and gossip , they may be attempting to dodge any undue interest or additionally be the priority of their rumor they are spreading.

They have low self esteem, and their only way to get attention is talk about others....you should really pity them, they are trying to make themselves feel better by downing others...
