We will be going to Boston in February and I'm trying to book a hotel but I need to know which area to stay. We are interested in great nightlife and dining (bars, clubs, dining) and maybe just a bit of sightseeing or something fun during the day. Thanks!!

I would go with Copley or Downtown if you wanted to be at the heart of it. There are several clubs and the theatre district near both of those locations. They are close to the South End, not too far from the waterfront.

Personal opinon: Copley is the better place for tourism and also for bars. Downtown is only a few blocks away and has several places to dine and drink. Both are accessible by public transportation, although I normally head out to Brighton or near Kenmore Sq. for bars (some of them dives, but good ones) which is Green Line accessible. At Copley you have access to Back Bay (Orange Line which goes to Downtown Crossing if you don't feel like walking. Or to Haymarket/North Station in/near the North End for Italian.) and the Green Line which goes to the Museum of Fine Arts, Museum of Science, North Station, Kenmore (Fenway Park area). Duck Tours and Trollies also board and stop at Copley.

Tremont St is between Copley and Downtown but closer to Downtown so that's a toss up on where to stay for clubs, but if I was looking for all three I'd stay in Copley. There is also Newbury St. for high class dining, or you can head over toward Downtown to Chinatown it you want Chinese. Also Chinatown is next to the Theater District.

It's a small city. ;D

Good luck with your choice.

I'd stay in Back Bay- Copley. Lots of nice hotels, nice neighborhood with great nightlife. it's close to just about everything. Anywhere around downtown is close to lots of things to do. Boston is not that big. You can walk anywhere or just take a short cab ride. I wouldn't stay in South Boston, as the new hotel area there is still being built and still has a way to go. There are still empty blocks around, creating a ghost town feeling.

Boston is a small city - so you can get to nearly everything by walking or taking the T or a short taxi ride. So, as for great hotels, check out some of these

Seaport hotel is right on the waterfront - newer hotel, convenient location http://www.seaportboston.com/

Langham Hotel is in Post Office Sq - just a few blocks from downtown crossing and faneuil hall. http://urlboston--langhamhotels--com.reachlocal.net/index.html

Liberty Hotel is the newest one in boston - site of an infamous prison. It's pricey but it definitely has cache

Backbay and Copley are the same location. That's your best bet for lots of activities and it stays populated with pedestrians until the wee hours of the morning. It's combined business and residential with lots of shopping and restaurants. It is very near all the historic sites as well.

Downtown is more corporate. Some areas get fairly deserted at night.
