They are paving my entire road and I'm wondering how long until I can leave my house... they are running the machine up the road at this exact point in time...

Asphalt or "blacktop" can be driven on right away.
Concrete will take a couple of days before it has curred enough to drive on.

If they are doing the whole road, it must be blacktop. Concrete would take weeks before being able to drive on. Once the roller is gone, they will remove the roadblock signs and you can drive on it.

If you are talking about blacktop, I think after the roller machine has been over it. For concrete, probably 24 hours.
