Hi, I am late this year taking down my gazebo, so i decided to do it today. In the curtains of my gazebo were lot's of wasp's that seemed to be dead, so i was just knocking them off onto the ground. As i was folding the curtains a wasp started crawling over them.So i thought they must be in a hibernation state, I know this may sound like a daft question but i am curious. Thanks....x

Only the fertile queen wasp hibernates. You will sometimes find a nest about the size of a golf ball which she hibernates in. This will develop into next years nest. The rest of the colony will die off about now as the frosts start.

Most of the hive dies, but some do hibernate!!!

"At a certain time of year (often around autumn) the bulk of the wasp colony dies away, leaving only the young mated queens alive."

I love wasps...

Normally the adults die off hoping their hibernating eggs will hatch a new generation next year.

I don't know if they hibernate, but they seem to sleep when the temp goes down & at night. That would be the best time to spray.
