*giggling at the question*. Gee, I sure hope so, and then I can finally answer the remark "Why , you can be sooo annoying sometimes"LOL.

Back to earth. In as much as the theory is so tempting , I do not agree that it is brilliance per se. Mere difference in thinking ability, reasoning, education, problem solving techniques, paradigms, belief systems, you name it, they all trigger the annoyance meter into overdrive.

So, if all of the above can be annoying, it follows that all humans, brilliant and otherwise, are annoying.

Tolerance is a hard virtue to cultivate. We all want other people to fit bins, be "controllable" "malleable", "docile" and semi idiots who will do as we command. This is the average man's idea of order.

Great leaders can pick out the gifts of the people who work for them, cultivate the people who own these gifts and simply just make the best fit for them, let them thrive and prosper.

It is not mere brilliance but pure genius.

I think you have that backward. I think people have a tendency to be annoyed by brilliant people.
Many people have latent inadequacy issues and when someone comes along that they see as a threat to their self image, they become annoyed because it reinforces the fact that they are not the 'best' in some way. I think everyone experiences this on some level from time to time but most of us are capable of dealing with this in a healthy manner.

Ill answer you in the fashion of aphorisms:

It is not a tendency, it is THE NATURE of brilliant people to annoy others especially the dummies. Here is why,the dummies are finding ways to be brilliant, and after a while they think they are brilliant. Brilliant people finding ways to be a dummy in order to explain a simple fact to dummies that they we are are all dummies.
------
"Others" (mostly consist of stupid people) thought they are so brilliant. On the other hand, brilliant people knows how stupid they are.
------
"Brilliant" people knew how they are brilliant; "Others" (again a company of stupid and very stupid people) have no idea, and they will never know.
------
No wonder a lot brilliant people are persecuted. In our present time, we call brilliant people nerds and weirdos. Brilliant people realize that other people will never understand.
------
Behold all you who understand the virtue of ignorance! It is in lesser knowledge that you know more.

Great spirits have always encountered violent opposition from mediocre minds. The mediocre mind is incapable of understanding the man who refuses to bow blindly to conventional prejudices and chooses instead to express his opinions courageously and honestly."
Yes because brilliant minds challenge what the others have taken for non-changeable!
