I have a large 45 in round mirror I actually found in the trash. Perfect condition other than a quarter sized black mark near the border. My mom says its because it's old and thats what happens. Im debating whether to fix up, paint and put on my wall. Weighs a good 35 lbs. But an awesome looking mirror. Any ideas?

It could actually take a very long time yet. That spot may be from age or the paint on the back became damaged at some point. I do believe that there are ways to fix the spot. You could check with you local home supply store and see if they have the necessary supplies. However, if you like the mirror and can live with the flaw then don't worry about it. Or, you could add artistry and character to you mirror. You could choose to get creative and completely scrape off the paint in that location. Create your own pattern or design and then paint it in with a color that matches your decor. You could even do it in several locations if you are brave enough. Just make sure you seal the back of the mirror when you are finished. .
Good Luck

On the back of the mirror the 'silver' is gone in that spot. Perhaps, you can get it redone or add a trim on the inside the frame like fake leaves/vine to hide that spot or just around the top part of the oval.

they say when a black spot starts you can seal around the area or take the backing off and go to a place where they sell mirrors or a craft shop and get this spray that you can re-do it yourself but if you seal the frame it shouldn't get any more moisture in it.

Your Mom's right, check it out at a glass co.. sometimes mirrors can be resilvered. might be too expensive, maybe it wont ever get another spot, stick a smiley face on it and enjoy.
