It was on the news all the time after it happened but I just can't seem to remember what island it was! please answer only if you know...

The island of Sumatra, in Indonesia.

A 1,600 km section of the tectonic plate boundary slipped during the earthquake, causing the ocean floor to suddenly move upwards and displace millions of tons of seawater. The resulting tsunami caused deaths as far away as South Africa.
