I'm 19, in college. Except for some minor faults when I was under 12, I never got in trouble. I've always have n excellent relationship w/ my parents. I don't live w/ them because I have to move out for college. When I was 14 I made a mistake. Once I gave in to peer pressure, went out w/ a crowd I knew was not very good. I drank a bit w/ them and even considered joining them in some wrong and dangerous stuff, but fortunately I was enough wise to get out. No one got to know and I thought about telling my parents what I had done. I asked for the advice of some adults, most scared me, said I'd lose my parents' trust and would get a harsh punishment. They were understanding and loving, so I don't think that would be the case, but I got scared and decided not to tell them anything. Anyway, I knwew I had been about to mess up, realized that would have been stupid and was sure I wouldn't do that any more. It was a very wise decision, I avoided some completely unnecessary problems.

As a parent, I would probably appreciate more my children being honest with me, especially if they were in some kind of trouble. I think it takes a lot of courage to come clean like that and I would think more of them and think that they had more character if they were to own up to their errors, and then face the consequences than if they hid from them.

I'm confused...did you tell your parents or not?? well if not I don't think you should because that was a long time so why even bring it up now?? Your 19 an adult so don't worry what happen in the past when you were just a kid...people have done ALOT worse things..stop being so hard on yourself...good luck

Depends on the situation. If you needed their assistance to stop the destructive behavior or if a life was in danger, Yes. Otherwise no parents do not need to know about everything, nut if you have a good relationahip, you can and the freaking out doesn't occur...
