I live in Florida and somewhat near water, there are alot of sand spurs in theyard and they constantly come in the house on shoes and so forth any remedy to kill those prickly things? The yard is not grassy and is quite sandy would growing grass help?

You could try a Herbicide like Vantage or even Round Up, however, the very best way is to get some heavy glove and just start pulling up the weeds and you see them and try not to let them go to seed. Growing grass won't necessarily help either because they will grow in the grass as well. You have to get rid of the weed that grows the sandspur.

Pull up or dig up each plant you see & dispose of it in closed container (or plastic bag) so it would not reseed. Have a mixture of Roundup or a grass & weed killer and spray a squirt on each hole or stem that you had dug or pulled out. This is so you eliminate the possibility that some root is still in the ground.

I also lived in Florida and found that keeping the area cut down stopped them from growing. I had 14 acres so treatment was too expensive.
