When I start my washer, it keeps on filling. When the tub is full, the water spills out in the back of the machine. I manually advance it, but it does not agitate. Then I advance it to spin. It spins and drains out the water just fine.

I suspect that something wrong with the water level sensor. So how do I start fixing it? How do I check the water valve? Do I open the back panel?

It a 4-yr old top loading Kenmore. I guess that is why the company was sold to K-mart.

Please help. Thanks.

The top should lift up so you can see/get to the water level sensor. It has a 1/4 in(about) hose going to it and a wire(to controls)going out.Check to make sure it is connected.

Check this recent Q from Steve in NC. Obviously a mechanism is malfunctioning.

Your best bet would be to call a repairman. Apparently you need some new pieces and parts for the washer.
