Is it the appendix that is causing this pain? Sometimes it goes away. I had this slight painful knot for the last two days.

no, the appendix is not on the left side, and referred pain from an inflammed appendix is felt in the shoulder not the hip.
the only thing there is the bowel and ligaments and muscles, so you either need to have a good bowel movement or you pulled a muscle.

Best to have it checked by doctor. Ask your doctor if you can have a Sigmoidoscopy... that's checking the colon in the lower area.
