People of Britain, do you say yes or no to the EU?

I say no, on behalf of all of the people I know including friends, family and opinions read on the Internet.
Immigration is beyond doubt the most talked about issue at this moment in a time.
I'm not racist but i will state my opinions- I'm a realist. Look up Enoch Powell's speech, 1968, and see for yourselves his prediction. The UK will result in civil war at some point, an overthrown government is my prediction- maybe a bit too hyperthetical but none-the-less rather true.

Enoch Powells "rivers of blood speech" referred to immigration from the Commonwealth not Europe. We had this type of immigration in the first place because the Asian and Carribean people were invited to come here after the war to do the jobs that British people were unable or unwilling to do. In fact if you were to calculate the value these immigrants have been both socially and to the economy you would be pleasantly surprised. If you have an Empire and exploit people around the world for 200 years then you have a responsibility to them and their families as well

The immigration we are now seeing is similar. The jobs that they take are those where there is a shortage of British workers to do them. They do now or will in the longer term contribute to the economy to a larger extent. We are going to be short of taxpayers in the not too distant future to pay pensions and healthcare for older citizens so we should welcome them with open arms.

Yes, getting to the point, we should be a part of the EU. We get plenty out of the arrangement as well as contributing to it. We should either be fully committed to our European partners or withdraw. I say jump in. commit to the Euro, be proud to follow the rules.

The facts are not as gloomy as you or the anti european press would have you believe.

Yes.

The economic and political power structure of the world is shifting from individual nation-states to favour regional blocs. The EU is potentially the richest and most powerful of the blocs likely to emerge, so it seems foolish to me to want to leave it.

If the UK does leave, it would be a marginalised country on the fringes of Europe; we'd still have to conform to EU laws to trade with them but without any influence on those laws; we would fall further and further behind economically and socially, ending up as little more than a low-wage sweatshop for Europe and the USA. If you think the Commonealth states would be enough to redress this kind of trade imbalance you're dreaming.

i am not British, I'm American and i would say no to the EU for any country but i don't think there is going to be on immigration look at the U.S there have been no problem on immigrants that came to the U.S even at 9/11 the terrorists were not Americans they were exchange-students. The reason that Americans don't explode a bomb like the airports last summer is because they are treated fair in the u.s. You British people and most Europeans see them as objects. there is racism against a woman wearing a veil or a man with big beard but in the U.S the only racism is search them from top to bottom at airports. other than that they are seen as equal American born citizen

You can only decide when you are in possession of all the facts. We have to ask ourselves whether we would be financially worse off if we left the EU. We are certainly starting to break away from our ties with the US and our only ties with the Far East are as purchasers of goods and services with a resultant inequality in our terms of trade.
If we ever go into recession I wounder how we could climb out of it.

From 1939-1945 The British People fought long and hard, with MASSIVE loss of life, to protect the integrity of our independance against Germany..

It amazes me that since then we have been giving away the freedom's that were fought for so bravely to the very same people that wanted to remove them in the first place!!!

I'd rather be part of a union of nations comprising (USA, Australia, New Zealand) than allow our destiny to be guided by brussels

I simply don't understand what is so threatening about the Lisbon Treaty? I really don't understand what is threatening about the European Union?

It is like the old constitutional treaty. It celebrates human dignity and in that social rights. You should be glad that you have leaders over there in Europe that actually care enough to want to preserve the social market economy. Europeans should be happy that they have leaders that actually care to put in "social market economy, full employment and social progress."

Articles Four and Five call for respect of Member States before the Treaties, and national identities, and the principles of subsidiarity and proportionality.

I really don't understand what is so threatening about the European Union. If you want REAL corruption, you can have the American Government instead - HAHAHAHA!

We did not vote for or expect the EU in its current form - just a free-trade agreement. This EU monstrosity needs to be scrapped. I would support our withdrawal; perhaps with some limited associate membership.

No to the EU. We are the only country that follows all it's rules to the Letter. The only thing the other countries have got better is no immigrants and lower taxes!!

Absolutely NO NO NO to EU.
Get the bloody Labour government out ASAP, it is down to their mamby pamby tiptoeing around that we have got this situation today. There should be rules and regulations on immigration and there should be enough manpower to police it. We shouldn't be afraid to speak out about the overwhelming number of foreigners who come to our shores every day and expect to be given housing, cars and a weekly allowance for just for stepping on our home soil. I think that the foreign nationals who come to our country without a trade should be made to work for their allowance, it seems logical to me, why can't the government see it?
