Tainted dog food, lead paint on toys and now drug-laced toys.

Is it China or a lack of oversight by the companies outsourcing?

I wonder if there are lawsuits pending against these companies, like mattel, because they are ultimately responsible for this.

If a few co's get sued for a few hundred million in each suit.....me thinks this problem would be rectified quickly.

Total lack of oversight and a complete failure of companies buying this stuff to act responsibly.

This is the natural outcome of a deregulated marketplace. In the pursuit of the lowest possible cost, things that cost the least are used to make the things you buy.

The government of China has not sanitary control on the production; but the governments of the country-importers must establishes mechanism to warrant the sanitary level of the extranger production. Someone is not doing well its work.
Some criticizer establishes that the economic growing of China is caused by many kinds of dumpings and low salaries.
One kind of this dumping is the absence of sanitary controls.
Maybe many companies in China are getting a lot of money making dumping but this is caused too by the irresponsibility of government of country-imported in implement the measures and controls necessary.

I think its a little of both! China is producing toys that arent really regulated by any laws on how they are made and the USA is not doing there part to be in these overseas factories like by regulating the rules or just having a presence there. Everyone is at fault on this one!

Companies outsource production to China.
China must make products cheap and fast so the companies make huge profits.
It cost money to buy fresh meat for dogfood, regular paint for toys and not to mention the fact that I didn`t know that kids
were supposed to eat the aqua dots. So I would say it probably cost too much for the companies to hire someone to make sure
things are done properly.

Aaaah ! The wonder of Graft and Corruption ! Pay-off the government inspector,... and you get approval for the use of low-priced, albeit prohibited, Inputs. This process can do immediate wonders for your profit margin. However, leaving a trail of dead bodies will often lead the villagers straight to your castle, ...in the middle of the night,... torches in hand and a money-back guarantee on the other. Which hand is scarier? Depends on your short and long-range objectives.

I think it is a little of both,
But what I was thinking this morning while watching the news is maybe china has found a different way to get at America. Why not target two of our main priorities?
Our Children and Pets? Hey come on it is not quite as noticable as lets say a bomb or a major attack against us.
Just a thought.
