Home.
Especially if there are young children at home.
Unless it was absolutely impossible for them to make it on just the husband's income. Then I think the mother could work but not full time cause I believe a mother should be at home taking care of the children and taking care of the husband and the house.
I'm old fashion.
And I don't think if a women stays home that she's being controlled by the husband. Why do a lot of people just assume that?
But same time, I don't think there's anything wrong if a women chooses to work.
Not sure if she has a young baby at home and goes to work full time though =\ .

Funny, I remember living in the 50's and it was not all that much fun.
Women HAD to be in the home.
There were no labor saving devices, interstate highways, supermarkets, calculators or televisions in most households.
Women had to take care of children without benefit of hired daycare, prepare meals without convenience foods or packaging, do laundry without benefit of in home appliances then spend hours ironing the cotton or wool clothing, Oh and restaurants were right out.

I cannot blame them for wanting out of that tedium.
I also do not think that many women would be so supportive of that stay at home lifestyle if this was what they were bargaining for.

So I firmly believe that the woman's place in the home theory is based upon antiquated attitudes and a stupid nostalgic view of the Ozzie and Harriet lifestyle.
Anyone who buys into that today is either very naive or has no long term memory left from the 70's.

Well, right about now if I didn't work- since my bf is unemployed we would all starve- there is 6 of us-
I handle my business at home after I get off work and in the morning before I leave. Sorry have to disagree to a point- I would love to be home but can't afford to be mary poppins!

Sure - my place is in the home I am buying on my own...AFTER I come home from my day at the office.

I have nothing against a person who stays home to take care of the house and kids - their job is harder and more demanding than mine, I am sure. I just was never one of those people who wanted to do that - I always knew that I would be the one supporting me financially - I would never depend on another to do that because I grew up in poverty and vowed a long time ago that I wouldn't be dependent on anyone else.

I prefer to work because I refuse to be controlled by any man. Plus, I have an advanced degree I must use. I am quite materialistic and ambitious. I cannot imagine living without Prada, Louis Vuitton, my Audi SUV, prestigious daycare and schools for our boys, neighborhood, vacations, etc........... I love the finest things in life and this is why I choose to work. Even Bill Gates wife, Belinda French Gates WORKS and she can definitely afford to stay home with all the comforts of a Queen.

Disagree, I think if there are kids at home then one parent should stay at home if it is financially viable, and I think either parent is good, father or mother. But in this day and age the cost of living is high and often both people need to work to make ends meet. I certainly will never, ever stay at home, I like to work, I enjoy working and I earn decent money, I would shrivel up and die of boredom at home. We have no kids so there is no reason for either of us to stay home.

Hahaha well if I were to stay at home, our income would decrease by about 66% (I double what he makes)......

I have so much to offer both in the home and outside of the home, I think it makes one much more interesting and attractive when they have their own life and own accomplishments going on outside the relationship... I feel fulfilled being able to use my intellect and achieve outside of the home (have a university degree). The home stuff should be shared by both! Cooking and cleaning and keeping the home nice together will bring you closer!

a persons place is where they can be happiest. what does gender have to do with it. my sons would have a real problem with anyone who said a woman was better at taking care of home and children than them.they want to be involved in their lives not pushed to the side lines.

Not, we have the right to make a living as much as any man, besides, in today's world it takes 2 checks to get by.
You want a woman to be depend on you? She never works a day in her life, you die, she has no way to support herself, no job history, doesn't have a clue what she would be good at. Has to depend on the state to help raise the kids.
Let the women work.

Agree if my husband could afford our home alone and I had to be stay at home mom, cook clean, wash groceries ect. I WOULD SO DO IT! However, how we may not live like that he is okay with me cooking, cleaning and doing laundry whenever I want! You just have to be understanding dont expect a woman to work and be a housewife. Is one or the other.
