Surely it is better to tax the companies forcing this packaging on us - stop it at source than to tax us for getting rid of it. Or is there a reason they don't like with tobacco and the tax revenue they get from it meaning they can't ban smoking outright.

I work in receiving and have done shipping. The packaging is there for a reason. Safety of the product being shipped is key to the packaging. I'd prefer to throw out the packaging than call the shipper to have them replace damaged products.

Sir, I'm sure the intent is to reduce wasteful consumption, and thus enhance our lives. Taxing the companies, however, may well be counter productive since they would undoubtedly pass on the added cost to the consumer - plus a bonus for themselves for the trouble of the bookkeeping and accounting required. Perhaps you should petition your representative and ask that they support requiring merchants to offer alternative minimally packaged products.

Your suppliers, as middle men, are already charged under packaging waste regulations because there is additional packaging when it arrives with them - and guess where all that goes - yes, to landfill and where does the money go ? To the government. Are we being fleeced or are we being fleeced?

Individuals in any country pay all of the taxes. Corporations pass off all of their tax expenses onto their customers. It is basic economics. If you don't want packaging, don't buy.
