I only found out about this a few weeks ago, apparently most schools no longer let kids play Conkers out in the yard because of health and safety.
Who comes up with these hair-brained ideas?

I work in health & safety and can tell you that most of the stupid rules imposed in the public and private sectors are because of litigation.

Hypotheical situation. 2 children at school playing conkers, one conker breaks and a piece is projected into one childs eye and causing damage. The child is taken to hospital and treated. The childs parents are furious that their beloved has been allowed to be injured in a place where they believe it should be safe for them to be left. So they sue the school.

The school has to set a system where the child is protected from harm and the school is safe from litigation. What would you do?

This may sound far fetched but I promise you it isn't.

I see situations where people have ignored rules, tampered with equipment or just plain done something stupid and got injured. They then put a claim against the company - remember how much people are encouraged to do this on the television. The company has to prove they are not liable, this is very difficult to do because, even if they've tampered with something, the company had them in a position where they could!!!! It's really crazy.

Who is to blame for the nanny culture, it's people who can't be trusted to work/play/live safely and when they are injured, immediately blame someone else and get the sniff of free money.

This forces people to be overprotective and just ban anything that may have an outside chance of hurting somebody.

I would also like to point out that I have seen people put litigation against companies where the company were definately to blame.

We have just had Fireworks and I know many people who have had these stuffed through their letterboxes in London.

We wrapped them up in cotton wool and now as soon as they are near anything with a slight element of danger they go OTT so they cannot be trusted to enjoy these things and not cause problems. Sad, eh?

Kids should be allowed to take risks and handle things which may have an element of danger otherwise they will grow up not knowing how to behave when they do get hold of them.

The schools are only protecting themselves from the 'sue' culture that has unfortunately crossed the Atlantic.
Too many people now spell 'accident' the same as 'compensation' but in reality the only ones getting fat are the legal profession.

Are you being serious?
Firstly I'm never going to vote Labour because of all of their new "policies and laws" also i don't believe Gordon Brown will perform well as primeministor considering Tony Blair created that Party to his own personal standard and he is the only one that can really opperate the labour party of today, at the moment.

IT'S NOT TRUE!!!!

Sheesh when will people stop falling for these urban myths.

I'm sick of people parroting silly rumours of non-existent bans.

If a sentence includes the word apparently it is probably not true.

See this link: http://www.hse.gov.uk/myth/september.htm for confirmation that this is a myth and therefore not true.

Hey why mark me down for simply pointing out the facts? Do people prefer to have something to rant about than check things out for themselves.
