my current bike is a new h-d 1200r on which i put 4k trouble-free miles in the first 3 months. i rode in comfort all the way from spokane, wa to wendover, nv, then rode it on the salt at bonneville salt flats international speedway, then rode it back. i had a blast! the fuel injected isolation-mounted engine is a sweet setup. the bike i had before this was a 2001 883 sportster standard. with it's carbureted solid-mount engine, it was a vibrating little dinosaur... a dinosaur on which i logged over 30k trouble-free miles. yes, trouble-free. hell, the original battery even lasted 6 yrs! and we're talking spokane washington here, not southern california or florida or arizona. that bike was ridden in 18 degree cold and 110 degree heat. harley-davidson suffers from a reputation it earned back in the 70's, when they were owned by amf, and passed along by people who, usually, have never even ridden (much less owned) a harley. thanx for giving me the opportunity to say so :-)

I have owned a Harley for almost 30 years and have NEVER broke down. I live in Indiana and have rode to Colorado, Canada, Florida, etc.I had a 1978 FLH(Shovelhead), and it was just regular preventive maintenence that kept it running good. Now, I have a newer Harley, and it never has any problems. I have to remind myself to change the oil.Ride what you can afford or what you like. We are all "in the wind".

Depends on your perspective.

If you have a Ford Ranger Pickup truck, and ask it to do 125 mph, it can do it but not for long!

If you have a BMW M5 and asked it to carry 100 lbs.of gravel in the trunk, it could do it but not for long.

The bikes (H.D.) were and are designed for a very specific type of riding style, to ask it to perform beyond its engineerd capabilities is just being ignorant.

It amazes me how you rice riders constantly try to insult Harley's, throwing out non facts like beads during Mardi Gras.

Sounds like an inferiority complex to me. As they say, there are 2 kinds of biker. Those that ride Harleys and those that want to.

Ask me again when I stop to help you on the side of the road.
Last guy I gave a lift left his new rocket in the breakdown lane.

Don't kick a sleeping dog,
and don't count your chickens, either.

Edit: As to your link, another worthless opinion that won't get listened to. He belongs behind the wheel of a wagon.

I told you not to kick the dog.

Not all H-D's drip oil and vibrate. My V-rod is liquid cooled and will do 150 like THAT! (See a burnout pic in my 360 profile)

When I pull up next to an airhead I like to ask them... "Does your bike always shake like that when a real bike pulls up next to it?".

But I'll ride any Harley. I'd love to have 2. My V-rod and a bagger too. Can't beat that!

Poker runs, and EZ-Rider. That's what it's about.

Harley Davidson is a "lifestyle" motorcycle. Their reliability and level of technology has increased significantly in the last decade however they are not cutting edge. If you want the fastest or the most reliable motorcycle you will need to look elsewhere.
