hey ive heard that humming or singing softly to an animal is a way to like get it used to your voice and calm it down? i hum and talk softly all the time when im around animals, with my horses and stuff. just wonderin

I agree. U just call its name in some tune ask the pet to repeat, they'll do. My dog sings along with me.So cool.

It's true. My daughter has a gift for calming horses - after a long road trip, new horses arriving at the barn after being rescued from abusive situations, etc. One of the things that works best is singing quietly to them along with gentle touch. The interesting thing to me is that you don't have to be a good singer for it to work. My daughter can't carry a tune, but the animals love it anyway!

I agree. The rhythym seems to comfort them. You are also likely more relaxed when doing this, and the animals feed off of that. There's a cool cd called Canine Lullabies that has children's lullabies with a background of a heartbeat - it is amazingly effective at calming stressed pets.

I can't think of why not.

I think critters find it reassuring when their people talk or sing calmly. Certainly speaking in a level voice is a way to get your critter's attention without scaring him.

my 7 year old daughter sings to her cats and they love it...they calm down and just lay there listening~we thought it was our imagination, but between the two of you I guess not
it's amazing...so I think yes...there does seem to be something to it
