i am trying to find out the correct terminology for a metal stamp that is connected to handles. You can pass it over books, squeeze the handle and it imprints whatever is on the metal stamp. someone asked me for one for christmas, but i dont know the name or where to start looking! thanks for the help!

It is an "embosser", and a GREAT gift for readers !! I've had one for about 15 years and LOVE stamping my books so there is NO question as to who owns it when I loan them out.

It's a watermark stamp (I have also heard the name dandy roll mentioned in relation to this type of thing)

I believe that is called an embosser. To emboss with.
