Every month I have horrible cramps that get worse through out the first day and vomiting. I also have back and thigh pain. I was wondering what exactly would help me. What kind of exercise or medicine or herb would help?

yes, A - my husbands Johnson in my mouth, or if he's not home than a B - giant Hershey bar. Both make me feel better. If you are in a comitted relationship do choice A, if not, do choice B.

Your symptoms sound very severe. I would check with a doctor to make sure everything is sound physically.

Menstrual cramps and problems are worse when we eat the foods we crave at that time. Fats, sugars, salts. Also watch out for preservatives in packaged foods. All these things will make you tremendously more miserable than you would be if you hadn't eaten them. I know it's hard but try to remember to eat as much whole, healthy food as you can at this time. It will truly make a difference.

Occasionally I forget to take care with the food I eat and when the cramps come I take a time released Valerian Root capsule or two depending on the severity of pain. I had leg pain for many years with my period and sometimes the Valerian Root would help it. I found a Natures Cortisol Formula that I took every day and I no longer have the leg cramps.

If you exercise regularly that should help relieve some of this also. Walking is excellent. Just really try to watch your diet. We are so delicate at this time of the month and things are so easily thrown out of balance if we are not careful with what we are fueling our body with. Good luck.

I know how you feel, I've suffered from PMS, bloating, and severe menstrual cramps for years. But I've finally found some things that help.
1.) Aleve works the best for me as a painkiller
2.) Lying down and crossing my legs helps, and does heating up a hot water bottle or heating pad and lying it on my abdomen.
3.)Watching a movie helps distract you from the pain.

But the best way to get rid of cramps is to prevent them from happening. A major cause of cramps is the body not getting enough calcium and/or magnesium. Find a high quality calcium/magnesium supplement and take it all month. Taking some right now will probably help you with your cramps too. Another huge cause of cramps is Estrogen dominance. The majority of women in America have too much estrogen in their body because of hormones given to animals that they then injest through milk products and meat. The way to fix this is to balance it with progesterone, the complimentary hormone. If you go to a gynecologist she can do a blood test for you and see if this is the problem and prescribe a progesterone cream for you, or you can go to a health food store and buy a lower dosage cream and try it out for a month and see if it works. Progesterone is the safest hormone to use, the body is good at getting rid of excess, but if you don't notice improvement after a month, then that isn't your problem so stop using it. Make sure you use the naturally derived plant progesterone as opposed to the kind they use in birth control pills, Progesterin, as that can cause a lot of side effects. But I think you will find that this relieves your symptoms a lot. After taking the calcium and using the progesterone I went from having horrible cramps for 3 days to only having one or two moderate bouts per cycle. I hope this helps you too ^_^.

I've had friends with similarly excruciating pain and they've all said that going on the birth control pill helped them. It was recommended by their doctor to help regulate their cycles and it helped immensely.

As for me, when I have trouble I lay with my back on the floor (on the carpet so it's not too hard or soft) and hug my knees against my chest (like the fetal position but you're not laying on your side.) I try to press my entire spine into the ground and it seems to help relieve some of the pain.

If this doesn't help I usually resort to taking Ibuprofen.

I had the same thing and I had to go on the birth control pill to alleviate the symptoms. I tried everything prior to that. Now all I need is a midol the first day and a heating pad but that is it I do not vomit and I used to have constant pain for my whole period and could not leave the bed.

I was told by a few experienced older women, that using a cap or two of creme de menthe in coffee, hot cocoa, whatever helps. So I tried it, and was impressed with the results. It does help the cramping, very much.

Cheers.

When I'm in pain i take ibuprofen.
But when my medicine is temporarily out, i eat a slice of lemon before eating anything else.
It's nasty, but about 10 mins later some of the pain is gone
( and i leg it to the pharmacy!)

For me , naproxen and catamine helps. Take them when you feel that you are going to have your menses. Dont wait until the pain comes then you take. It will take very long for the pain to subsize. If you take it before the pain comes, it is really beneficial. Try it and let me know.
