or credit cards? i understand if you have alot of money, but if you are just getting by, is it a must to have one?

No its not a must to have a bank account. I havent had one in over a year and Im just getting by. I think if it was against the law someone would have said something to me by now.

There is no law that says that you must have any bank accounts or credit cards. It is, however, a good idea to establish your credit rating by having one card that you use to buy gas or groceries and pay off in full each month.
Many banks will also offer you a free checking account if you use direct deposit of your payroll check. If you don't need or want these then that's fine, but you will probably have to pay fees for money orders at some point.

It's not the law, but having a bank account and/or credit cards makes it a lot easier to purchase things and make transactions

No one has to have a bank account or credit cards but you will find its hard to do somethings without them like rent cars, buy plane tickets etc.and you will have no way to get money direct deposited from work or the government.
