What are the exact steps to take control of a remote computer?

Question

Can you please let me know the exact steps to use remote control from my computer at work to my home coputer?

I'm using LogMeIN but the program i open shows it as a blank white screen.

I know with windows XP remote desktop it streams video a little bit atleast.

Can you please let me know the following

A)How to put on my computer at home to accept remote connections

B)How to send a remote connection from my work computer

C) What do i need to know? IP address? where do i find any/all info i need to log into my home computer

D) any way to reduce quality so it is easier to get a faster Frame rate if something is say video?

although the first answer here is a good starting point it will not necesarily get you connected. If you have a router on your system at home you will need to forward port 3389 which is the remote desktop port to the IPaddress of you computer at home so that when the connection from your work computer is coming in it will hit your router and your router will see this connection coming in on the 3389 port and know where to send it which is the computer your trying to connect to. Also setting a static ip for your computers at home can make this easier that way it's always the same. If you have multiple computers at home you could set a static ip for each one such as 192.168.0.15 & 192.168.0.16 and then you could have one system remote desktop port set to 3389 and the other to 3390 and then set the router to forward both these ports to there appropiate ipaddress and you could be remoting into multiple computers at your house. Note - You can only remote into windows XP Pro & XP Media Edition. XP Home does not support remote desktop.

Logmein always works for me, I have seen it hold a white screen for some time, but it eventually displays correctly. You do need to turn off any kind of sleep mode.
