They're little like craft beads and apparently, if you swallow them, your body metabolizes and turns them into GHB (also known as the date rape drug). You feel euphoria in small amounts but larger amounts causes amnesia and black-outs and potentially, death. It's just a freak thing and the manufacturers didn't intentionally do anything. Ironically, it's made in China. It wasn't intended for small children but apparently a couple of toddlers ate them and showed positive for GHB. Isn't that bizzare?

It's not because it can make you high, it's because it can make you DEAD.
Don't think that the manufacturer did not intentionally do this. The adhesive containing these compounds is less expensive than the approved one.

The AquaDots issue may also be behind the "new" disease which appeared in some Virginia schools last week. The symptoms of the "disease" are strikingly similar to the effects of GHB.

Isn't it funny how that works like that?

2 kids in the U.S. went into a comma. Fortunately both recovered. Have not heard the fate of the 3 kids in Australia who were hospitalized.

Was NOT a freak thing. The manufacturer (not the toy company) made an unauthorized change in the glue. Stupid cost cutting moves or pressure to get to market no matter what again!!!

It's not just bizarre; it's a travesty. Children could die and that is in no way funny. I don't understand why some answerers of this question find it comical.
