From prior discussions here we know that some of us dislike cutting down a live tree for a few weeks' enjoyment, and prefer realistic but fake trees. Others insist the trees are grown just for this purpose. Some have to compromise with family members who want it one way or the other. What's planned for your Christmas decor this year - real or fake?

As for me - LOL - it will probably be ceramic; no room for a tree!

I gave up live trees about 3 years ago, because I got tired of lugging it from the car to the house, and then from the house to the curb for pick-up. Our used trees were then made into mulch.

I have this fake tree that I purchased but it is heavier than the real tree. I think this year I am going to put up a table top and make it easy on myself since it is just me and my mom. Then again, I might get inspired, change my mind, and buy a very very, short, live tree.

I personally enjoy a real evergreen tree. But we had some problems with the tree's pine needles falling so much because of the tree being to dry in the hot house. So now we have an artificial tree. And I will have to admit, unlike the old fake trees(that looked like a tree with anorexia!) The tree we have had the last 5 or 6 years does look real! I have had people come over and comment about it being a beautiful tree. And when I tell them that it is artificial, they can't believe it! But the thing you do not get is the smell of a real tree! MMMM! Makes me want to put my tree up now..:)

Fake, unfortunately. Last year on the news, I saw stories of 3 houses where the trees caught on fire, with very serious damage to the houses. One house burned to the ground within minutes as a result. Luckily, a passerby pounded on the door and rescued an elderly woman who had fallen asleep. The real trees are beautiful, but when I saw those news reports, it really made me think about safety having more importance, so I will be having an artificial tree.

We've had artificial for years, and last year invested in a slimmer one that takes up less room. Love the real ones and miss the traditional part of them, but where I am they're much too expensive. Plus this way I can have the tree the tree up for as long as I want without worrying. We usually put it up about Dec. 15th and then leave it up till Little Christmas....and sometimes longer if I'm feeling especially sentimental and can't bring myself to take it down!!

I bought a large fake tree a few years ago, so I need to use it a while to get my moneys worth. I got it because my daughter-in-law has allergies to the real trees. (Isn't that a shame!). I love the smell of the real trees, and I do not feel that anyone should have a problem with using one if they can, because these trees are grown just for that reason and are replanted every year. And they are beautiful!

We're having a real tree this year! I don't always put up a tree, but my boyfriend has never had a real one. Just last night he was telling me his family had the same fake tree for 20 years with the same decorations, too. I want to show him how fun it can be to go through the whole process!

I have NEVER had a fake tree. I love the smell of a live evergreen in the house and wouldn't have it any other way.

I live in a SMALL apartment and there's no room for a full size tree, so I have in the past bought a live evergreen (~2' tall) and when the Christmas season is over, I plant it in the wild or give it to someone for their yard.

BTW, let me be the first to say, "Merry Christmas" !!

When the kids were little we had real trees, even went to the tree farm where they picked one out. Now I have a couple of fakes, small ones for the house, and decorate our palm trees outside. Fir trees are very expensive here in Baja and dry out quickly. I do miss the scent of them, but have some xmas tree scented candles which are nice but a poor substitute.

Love your idea Lady G.!
My husband and I, being newly married, (and having had "other" people keep all our holiday decorations of past years,) have this decision to make also. We have traveled for the past two years, so this year is the first we will be spending at home... as we are not expecting any children in the house I doubt if we will do much. Perhaps a few small trees for decoration on the formal dining table, some pine cones and ribbons... and, maybe, if one of us dares go up on a ladder... some outdoors lights!

I have a little 4 foot tree that I have had for a few years. It is just me anyway.

For many years, we had fake trees when the boys were little. After I bought my house, it had 12 foot ceilings, so I bought a real tree for a change. It was beautiful, then my son could not breath and had an asthma attack. Turns out he was allergic to Christmas trees! My ex in laws were thrilled that their grandson was allergic to Christmas trees as they were Jewish.
