You know, to be quite honest, I am sick of seniors being major priorities in political campaigns. senior housing, seniors incomes, etc etc etc. seniors are not our future, they leave us paying incredible hospital taxes because they feel the need to go in every monday to chat about they're lasted aliment to their doctor. baby boomers are going to leave us in financial misery because there are so many of them and they will eat up our health care like theres no tomorrow. it's apparent most have a soft spot for seniors, yes they are old and cute, but why are things like education, sustainable housing, etc (i.e. current, pressing issues) at the focal points of political agendas?

The short answer--more seniors vote than do young people.

Most seniors value the right to vote and exercise it. They have developed groups that lobby for them. They take their rights seriously and are usually willing to give something back to their country or already have "paid their dues". I find it upsetting to see seniors who have worked their whole life paying into this government system only to be retired and have to decide which medications they need the most because they are unable to purchase all the medicine they need.
Speaking of paying incredible taxes for health care, what about young people on public assistance who use the emergency room because they do not make an MD appointment or wait until they need emergency care because they did not take care of a problem when it only required an office visit? Or public assistance pays for their abortion because they were not responsible enough to use birth control?
Also immigrants. Many illegal immigrants receive public assistance. I guess this isn't checked when the agency checks eligibility.
Also immigrants here for religious asylum. I know of immigrants who came here for operations and health care they were unable to receive in their own country. They receive a monthly check because they are disabled, subsidized housing and medical care including medications. They immigrated claiming they need religious asylum.
Looks to me like there is a soft spot for many groups, not just seniors.

You are sick of it? Then, do something about it. Actions speak louder than words.Do you even take the time to vote? The majority of voters are the baby boomer(seniors), so why wouldn't politicians put us as a priority.Maybe you are young and cute and want education and other current issues addressed, so run for office.Get people of your generation involved. Then, when you get to be our age, you can thank us for the work we have done!

Let's see, my children are responsible adults, they all have in laws living with them to help them out. Is there any division for school bonds etc.--no and we don't have any children in school but we pay the same taxes that you wonderful uninformed 'kids' do. We couldn't vote when we were 18 and as soon as we turned 21 we were voting and we still do. In case you need to blame this senior for sucking up your health care well I have not been in a doctors office for 15 years. Give a second look to your scathing opinions of seniors. You wouldn't have a calculator, a space program, a TV or a lot of other conveniences without our innovative people in your past. Throw no rocks please! ;0)

In the US if seniors banded together (such as in a union) they would be the largest voting block in the country. They also actually vote whereas many younger people talk about voting and the issues but do not actually go to the polls.

Wick, I was almost the king of snark before you came on board and, believe me, I was happy to see you show up. You took a load off my shoulders by pointing out to others much of what I was trying to get across. Milton does too but he's far better educated at it than we are and he sometimes lets that education appear as disdain to those of us that didn't reach his level of education. Milton is one of the good guys, he just comes across differently than you or I do. And he doesn't ask stupid questions such as one of the other answerers pointed out. I loved that reply. BTW, I didn't see your reply or what it was that Milton said. It's been hard lately to find good questions and answers that pertain to Senior Citizens or an old goat such as I.

You live in a free country today because so many seniors fought for this country. Read The Greatest Generation. Seniors have worked their entire lives, paid into the system, and raised the next generation. Their entitled!!!

When a high percentage of people in any group, including age groups, vote, then politicians speak to issues they think the group who consistently votes cares about. This has very little to do with any 'soft spot'.

There are also plenty of boomers and seniors who do advocate for education, housing, healthcare, and better job oportunities for everyone. I think it's a bit narrow and short-sighted of you to see only a portion of what so many of us work on.

I found this question to be hilarious. Can't anyone here see that you're being provoked into an arguement ? Yes, I know that there are people that are actually this ignorant, but c'mon...don't even give them the time of day or the satisfaction of an intelligent answer.

Aw garwsh, I ain't been cute in a long time. Would be more than happy to trade Medical and prescription bills with you (not covered by insurance-which I pay dearly for, or Medicare - which I've paid into since the age of 16). Don't intend on apologizing for taking advantage of a small part of my investment either. The facts of all these "freebies" just don't match up with your opinionated "theft" of your hard labors.// Incidentally, you might note that with every cost of living increase in Social Security payments is an offsetting raise in out-of-pocket costs for medical entitlement.

What I suggest you do is print your question out and put it away safely for about 50 years, then read it .. I believe the word for your then state of mind will be "Embarrassed" .. the world as it is, in which you live and enjoy the privileges, computers, colour TV, iPods, gameboys etc., was invented by our sweat for you, the children of today and the leaders of tomorrow .. beware that your words don't come back to haunt you .. or are you advocating 'Logan's Run"?
