Correction to above answer: an allel is one possible form of a gene. A gene can have many alleles. Di -hybrid really means to look at two different GENES or loci since different genes are located at different places on the chromosome.

A dihybrid cross is a cross that considers two traits at a time. For instance, crossing a female guinea pig that is black, rough with a male guinea pig that is albino, smooth is a dihybrid cross.
