'Salem's Lot." The book was great and I'm not even a Stephen King fan! But when they made the book into a movie they spoiled it all. If anybody only saw the movie and did not read the book, they were sorely disappointed!
Also one of my favorite books by Danielle Steel, "Now and Forever" was a big disappointment to me--especially since Tom Selleck was in it and I dearly love him. Still, an excellent read.

I love the Harry Potter series. But the movies have been a slight disappointment.
The Godfather book and movie are excellent.

I try to do it backwards - watch the movie then read the book. That way I'm not disappointed. The book is always better than the movie.

The first attempt at Dune back in the mid 80s. Wow! Was that a bad movie! The book was great, though. -yk

MANY of them. A good writer can just do so much in a book that a 90-minute movie can't cover.
Especially poor book to film conversions:
"Lords of Discipline"...wretched movie from one of my favorite Pat Conroy novels.
"Watchers"...an even WORSE movie from my favorite Dean Koontz book.
"Dune"...the original movie was awful, from Frank Herbert's sci-fi classic.
Good ones, in my opinion:
"Misery"...good movie version of a Stephen King thriller.
"Forrest Gump"...the movie was actually BETTER than the book, I thought.
"Shawshank Redemption"...again, I thought the movie was BETTER than the book.
(For some reason, a lot of the movies from Stephen King books have been pretty good...)

Starship Troopers.
Amazing book about war, politics and coming of age.
Stupid movie that took the first chapter and made it into a 90 minute movie.
