The Iraqi job: How a 4am raid netted the dictator's son a $1bn prize
By Donald Macintyre in Baghdad
07 May 2003

Amid the cordoned-off, burnt-out wreckage of what was once the Central Bank of Iraq it required a little imagination to visualise Qusay Hussein arriving at 4am on 18 March on the orders of his father and making off with $1bn in three lorries.

But, US Treasury officials confirmed yesterday, that was just what he did in the process depriving the bank of about a quarter of its currency reserves and underlining, if that was needed, that the Iraqi dictator and his family did not believe a word of their own propaganda about crushing the invaders.

It's hard to pinpoint because there's been such fiscal carnage over the decades. But I personally believe the folks who take advantage of corporate welfare programs have stolen the most money from the U.S. treasury.
Another 'grand theft' has been the rape of our Social Security system, which everyone believes they're 'entitled to' since they 'paid into it'. Social Security was intended as an insurance policy for people who found themselves destitute in their golden years. Instead, the majority of people collecting Social Security checks today are people with a home that's paid for; drive two luxury cars; own a vacation home; take lavish trips around the world; dine in five-star restaurants; join country clubs; own stock portfolios, and pretty much live in the lap of luxury with all their other income sources being supplemented by their monthly Social Security check.
