I had a nice clarion system installed, but the installer tried for days to get the radio signal to stenghten. odd thing is that I can receive some small stations but can pull in the larger ones.

The first suspect is of course the antenna. BMW uses an odd antenna plug, which needs an adaptor to fit aftermarket radios, it also has an amplifier to boost it's signal located at the driver side C piller next to the rear windshield. Any of these could be the problem. But...

Since you said you're using a Clarion radio, are you using a US radio in a non-US car?

US FM radio frequency "steps" are different from other countries overseas. So if you have a radio (from the US) and tried to use it in UK, you will miss the exact frequency of some of the stations.

I believe US uses 100kHz, and Europe uses 50kHz steps.

The range is also different... Europe uses 87.5MHz ~ 108Mhz, US has 88MHz-108MHz.

There is a plug to convert from stock to clarion.

That is what he needs to get you back in the am/fm dial
