just read a book called moonfleet, its about smugglers on the dorset coast, does the village of moonfleet actually exist, and if so where is it.

No, it doesn't. It's based on Fleet, Dorset.
It is called "Fleet Village".

According to a website, Moonfleet is derived from a family name, "Mohun" and the village name "Fleet".
