curled in the fetal position in the dark basement, crying.

My kids are spread around the State but we always get together during Christmas time but not always on Christmas eve. Sometimes it's at my place and sometimes theirs. It's been a while since I went back "Home" to Chicago for the Holidaze. I still have a couple of brothers and their families there.
When I know I'm going to be alone on Christmas Eve, I will volunteer at a Salvation Army or someplace to give out food.
I like to cook on the Holidaze, so I will eMail friends and if they are also alone, I'll host an "Orphan's Christmas" and invite them over for a pot luck. We'll eat and drink and watch movies and football. It's good to be with people on these days.
Oh, Egg Nog with brandy and that Hot buttered rum sounded good, too.
So if any of you are in the Santa Barbara area on Christmas Day, come on by, I'll save a plate for you.

My perfect Christmas Eve is with family and young children. They are so excited about Santa. Then they all go home. I and my sweetie curl up together, watch the fire, and drink hot buttered rum.
Nowadays, sometimes it's with family; they live on the opposite coast. I like to take several small presents with me and let the kids open one or two each day I'm there before Christmas. Makes every day like a little Christmas and not so much to overwhelm them on the actual Christmas morning. Sometimes dinner out with friends. Sweetie got cancer and passed on.
One of the most fun Christmas periods was when every day I came home from work and found something new. One eve it was Christmas hat and scarf for the dogs, another the lights were put up, another some new decorations for on top of the piano. It was a great season, felt like a kid who was excited every day about Christmas.

I am alone now on the eve so I just do the usual, not much. I am having some nog right now, saw little bottles in the corner store the other day and decided I had to have some. I love hot cider with a cinnamon stick in it when I heat it. I also like Tom and Jerry's -- my dad used to make the best batter in the land. Hot buttered rum with nutmeg and extra butter is also good. Sound like a booze hound!! I will watch tv or read and snuggle up on my couch, no pets anymore so me and my fwanky. My kids here have in laws living with them so I get to be the bastard child, don't mind, I am proud of them.

Sitting around with my family drinking hot chocolate or egg nog with cookies and Christmas carols playing. We look at videos of times past or tell old stories. Sometimes we sing karoke or play a game. We open one present on Christmas eve., when we were kids it was always new pjs. lol The main thing is that we're together.

Having a hot cup of tea or cocoa and watching movies like It's a Wonderful Life or A Christmas Carol, while wrapping last minute gifts.

Egg nog with family and friends and the fireplace crackling giving the only light in the room, a smorgasbord meal then hot cocoa and sweets as we open the presents, followed by a game night.

I am usually alone at Christmas, but I like a cup of warm spiked apple cider. The lights off and just the glow of the Christmas lights in the house. And, I watch Miracle on 34th Street...one of my favorites.

Sitting in front of a fire, glass of wine, family or friends, laughing, enjoying each other's company, learning of fun things from when they were younger, Christmas carols playing softly in the background.
