Touch Screens, (what is their brain called)?

What is the name of where the coordinates of a touch screen are sent? I was thinking motherboard but I dont know.
therefore what is the (Brain) of a touchscreen called?

A touchscreen is going to be connected up to a microcontroller (Usually a CPU + memory + other stuff, all on one chip.)

The microcontroller, possibly along with the driver running in the computer system, will then make the touchscreen look like a mouse to the system.
