I have a lid for my fish tank, it fits pretty snug but not perfect. I'm having trouble keeping water from evaporating rapidly from my tank. Any suggestions?

Thanks for the help!

There really is nothing you can do except toping it off.
During the winter months, the air gets very dry and the rate of evaporation is very high. It is very common for water to disappear faster during the colder months.
another thing that makes the water evaporate faster, is that the water is warmer than the air. In all reality, your fish need this heated and steady temperature, so you can't really turn the heat down.
You could try to keep a humidifier running during the winter months. If the air is not dried out (artificial heating), it will be able to absorb much less water from your fish tank. I have never run a humidifier, for the purpose of slowing the evaporation rate of my tanks, but it is worth a try if you have a humidifier lying around.

Turn your light off at night, if you have large fish then make sure they aren't splashing near the surface (if they are you may need a bigger tank). You could also get a sheet of fiber glass and fit that on the top with a few small holes drilled into it, you'll get the needed ventilation and won't have evaporation as bad.

There's not much else you can do. In the winter, the air is dryer, and you'll get more evaporation. The only thing I can suggest is to add water more often until spring.

if it's close to a window, keep the blinds closed so there's no extra heat. that's what we do. that's about all you can do. oh, and if you have any kind of air circulation like a ceiling fan, keep that off cause that will speed up evaporation too.
