The ancient Greeks. It was their religion.The "God" of the Jews was called "Hebrew mythology".

It was not a mythology to them. It was their religion. They created it for the same reasons every other religion/mythology was created; to explain the things they could not understand. They didn't have the tools we do today so they didn't understand where lightning came from or why out of the blue the oceans swelled with hurricane weather. Most important of all it explained what happens after death.

1) explain natural phenomenon
2) explain the values of their culture
3) to entertain themselves

there were some other reasons but i cant remember! sorry...
