A friend of mine gave me a 45gal fish tank and the filter, stand, and hood. I bought new black fine gravel. Washed it, and put it in the tank. The water is cloudy from the gravel, will that go away or do I need to drain it and add more water? Also I want to get some fire eels, should I get 1 and something else or 3 and my some dinoes and 1 or 2 pleco's.

Thanks,

the gravel will clear within a week you need to get your filtration system up and running first and cycle your tank before you can put anything in

The cloudyness will go away in time, but before putting anything in there you need to let it run for about a week. After that get some stupid fish you dont care about....some feeder goldfish or somethin and let them live in there for about 2 weeks. this will Cycle your tank and get good bacteria in there. After that, you should be able to start adding the fish you really want. Keep in mind though this is a new tank even though it ran before, and any bottom feeders you put in will need food (like the plecos would need algea wafers) because there isn't enough natural algae and such in the tank yet for them to eat. those eels can be territorial to so becareful about how many you get

Don't worry about the cloudiness, worry about cycling the tank. First find out what cycling means, then do it. Do it before you add any fish! By the time your tank is properly cycled the water will be clear.

The cloudiness will decrease in like a day's time, but I would get one eel.
