OK let's get this straight :
Wild Thing was written by Chip Taylor and first released (in 1965) by The Wild Ones
But it was a smash hit for The Troggs in 1966. This was therefore a cover version. The Troggs didn't write the song and weren't the first to release it.
Since then it's been covered by any number of artists (Hendrix, Aerosmith..).
The Kinks never recorded Wild Thing.

The Troggs were an English rock band of the 1960s, who had a number of hits in Britain and America, including their most famous song, "Wild Thing". The Troggs were from the town of Andover in southern England. The band's name comes from shortening the word troglodyte - meaning "cave dweller".

Man, this brings back some memories. The Troggs were the original artists. Now, who remembers Sam the Sham and the Pharaohs and Wooly Bully? How about Surfin' Bird by the Trashmen?
