There are thousands.... most of them being small, independent builders that only build a few boats per year.

I know at least 82 major power boat builders, you can add some sailboat builders and there are lot of independent custom builders, so i would say at least 2-3 thousands.

in my area alone ( lets say a 50 mile radius ) there are 12 boat dealers... and very few of us carry the same line... we alone carry 7 different brands of boats... lets say 5 brands per dealer.. = 60 different types of boats being sold within a 50 mile radius... not to mention there is a sailboat builder inside that radius as well...
so, my answer would be..... hhhhmmmm... A LOT!!

Mike is correct. Many are just Hobbyist Builders. Then there are those that build as a profession.
