You can safely lift up to 40 pounds.
The key is to lift properly. Squat down using your legs, not your back.
Lifting improperly or lifting heavy things will NOT hurt the baby, as some think. The real risk is to the mother's back.

I still lift my 4 year old who at her check up a month ago was 30 1/2 pounds.. i have the same OB as i did with her, and he loves when I bring her in, so last time he actually said to me, MOMMA I think you need to start curbing that a bit, I wouldnt recommend lifting ove 15 pounds after about 6 or 7 months... he also mentioned that my balance will shift, and carrying a child only causes you to throw off the equilibrium more, so there is a small risk I could fall when carrying her... I would say do it until you start to get uncomfy, but itis better ti break her of it now, because when the baby comes it will be awefully hard to carry both.,

Mine was about 3 months when I found out I was pregnant with #2, you can deal with it.. if your last pregnancy was nonremarkable just talk to your doctor.. you should be able to pick #1 up until at least the next 6 months.. then you will need some help. But if I remember right I did most everything until the 9th month when I couldnt' bend that well anymore :-)

Unless you are experiencing any high risk issues you should have no problems lifting your little one. Remember that your sciatica can be a real problem later on, so if you have any stairs, you may consider teaching her about sitting down and scooting up and down them on her tush if you feel comfortable with her walking skills (always supervised of course!). I had this problem with my son while pregnant with my daughter (they're 15 mos apart) and that worked well for us b/c I was unable to lift him unless absolutely necessary and my husband was away. Good luck!

I lifted my son all the time while i was pregnant with my second one. Then number three came!!!! so while pregnant with third i was lifting two at the same time. As long as you arent a high risk pregnancy you can still lift your daughter.

You're fine. Don't worry about it. You're more at risk of straining your own muscles than anything else...you can pick up your daughter as much as you want.
