My son was 2 monthes old.... the doctors say it is bad but I swear by it, he is now 20 yrs old.. and he is 6 ft 3. He was just so hungry, and as soon as i put a tsp in his formula, he slept through the night!!!

I started my daughter when she was about 4.5 mons. I put it in a infant feeder that looks just like a bottle (but has a bigger nipple hole) I added about 2-3 spoonfulls in her with her daily formula and she was a very happy girl with a much fuller tummy. I gave my daughter this feeding 2x daily one at her 9am bottle and one for her 6pm bottle.
The reason to add cereal is for a baby to have a bit more solid food than what formula alone gives.

I am expecting anyday with daughter #2 and will do the same thing as far as feedings.

Good Luck and ENJOY being a new MOM....

my first....4 months. the rest, don't remember probably around 5-6 months. as long as you baby is getting a vitamin supplement you really can go up until 6 months, but after that...docs pretty must insist you start pablum for iron.

We gave him his first rice cereal and oatmeal at 4 months. We gave rice cereal in a bottle with formula or breast milk since week three to help with acid reflux. My son didn't begin eating solids real well until about 6.5 months... so be patient and don't worry if they just aren't interested. Many now recommend starting solids at 6 months!

I had to start my son early (doctor's orders for reflux). However, it's recommended that you don't start until at least 4-6 months and the baby is showing signs of readiness:

- Able to sit up in a highchair
- Good head and neck control
- Not satisfied with 32+ ounces of formula.

Though some will argue that rice cereal has no nutritional value, there are some varieties fortified with DHA and ARA, and it is a perfect first food from a non-allergenic mechanical perspective.

Here's a link for more information: http://www.drgreene.com (click Answers>Nutrition and scan articles - there are quite a few about starting solids).

Good luck!

I didn't

I really wish people would do a little research on what theyre putting in their babys mouth.

Rice cereal has NO nutritional value. Its on the shelves for infants with reflux. Fruit and veggie baby food is a wonderful 1st food. There is absolutely NO NEED for the cereal.

I started giving my son a teaspoon or two mixed in his formula feeding before bedtime at around 5-6 months. He appetite had tripled around that time. Instead of waking me up twice a night to eat, he only woke up once or not at all.

I started my son at 2 months for reflux (not drs. orders--on my own).he has slept thru the night ever since then..
my dr said that it was fine as long as he was healthy and eating right..
the wic office said-you need to take him off of cereal until he is at least 6 months old,it is not good for his digestive system

dr-wic-dr-wic...who do you think i went with????

off and on from like 3 weeks old because we didn't know what was wrong with him ... the problems were the formula he was on caused too much gas and reflux and he needed a "Sensitive for fussy and gassy Babies Formula" and his trachea flap was too weak to sleep him on his back ......

but we started on veggies at 3 mths ........
